Preview Remote Internships. Last mile!

PREVIEW’s remote internships are unlocking new possibilities for students — making international experience accessible from anywhere. Interns aren’t just observers; they dive into real, meaningful work: digitizing archives, cataloguing collections, crafting digital maps, scanning and organizing high-resolution photographs, and researching archaeological sites. All of this is balanced with MOOCs and vibrant online collaboration through Zoom, Teams, and Google Drive so learning never stops.
Between January and May 2025, the partner universities — UNISS, USAL, ASE, and NEVU — received 136 internship requests, and by July 1, 99 had been completed. February saw the highest burst of interest. UNISS, ASE, and NEVU each brought around 30 interns on board, while USAL faced hurdles due to lower Tourism enrolment and scheduling issues. At UNISS and NEVU, a few internships didn’t launch due to administrative delays but those obstacles also offered lessons and room for improvement.
To support this journey, PREVIEW rolled out rich multimedia learning tools and unveiled the PREVIEW HUB, a digital space designed for interactive training and seamless collaboration. These resources help tutors and administrators coordinate effectively, while giving interns the chance to sharpen essential digital, organizational, and communication skills tailored to remote work life.

Impact and Next Steps

swotThe results speak for themselves: student feedback has been glowing. Participants say they’ve gained confidence in their digital abilities, honed critical thinking and communication, and embraced the flexibility of the hybrid model. Many feel better equipped to thrive in the fast-evolving landscape of professional life.
This image presents a SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) of a remote internship program.

Opportunities: Highlights the program’s strengths, such as strong intern engagement, clear structure, flexibility, adaptability, good coordination among participants, and the development of high professional skills.
Threats: Lists potential challenges, including platform failures, low engagement in time management, limited teamwork due to the remote setup, overly technical language, risk of disengagement without daily supervision, and fewer hands-on tasks compared to traditional internships.
Opportunities: Notes the potential to expand the model to other departments and programs, and attract more interns through flexible scheduling.
Threats: Mentions technology barriers affecting students from disadvantaged backgrounds and administrative difficulties linked to local university regulations.

PREVIEW’s framework proves that remote and hybrid internships can be both equitable and effective. This model is emerging as a blueprint for universities across Europe that aspire to modernize the internship experience — melding academia and industry in a digitally empowered, future-forward way.
Preview extends this reach through MOOCs in five languages — English, Spanish, Italian, Romanian, and Turkish — hosted on the Preview Learning/Teaching Hub. These courses are tailored for students, graduates, academic staff, tutors, and company mentors aiming to master digital competencies. You can also find them in English on the Preview Project YouTube channel.
If your university is considering experimenting with a hybrid internship model — or simply curious — reach out. The PREVIEW Platform is ready for new collaborators.
